What information do I need to provide when filing a petition for child custody / visitation?: We need the child’s full name, date of birth, social security number (if known), and address. We also need the same information for both parents and guardian (if applicable).

1. What information do I need to provide when filing a petition for child custody / visitation?: We need the child’s full name, date of birth, social security number (if known), and address. We also need the same information for both parents and guardian (if applicable).

2. The other parent of my child has filed a petition for custody / visitation. I would like to have custody or visitation also. Do I need to file my own petition?: You do not have to file a petition also. Only one party needs to file. The judge can consider granting custody or visitation to either of the parties; however, if you so choose, you may also file.
